Wow... I check this site maybe once or twice a month to see if the new stock is out. I think hell is gonna freeze over first.

Why would you add  "KAC rails"  when the XCR already comes with machined rails Huh?

Perhaps you actually mean  'KAC rail covers' ?

I don't use them as I ordered the rail covers that Robarms offered for the XCR.

Other people seem to use KAC rail covers on the XCR.

There again, other people have problems installing them on other weapons.

Have you ever considered that the KAC rail covers are out of spec ?

I do indeed mean the rail covers...if you find a way to put a KAC rail system on a XCR I'd like to see it  Tongue

Personally I truly like the KAC covers and have grown extremely used to them throughout my time in service.

I'd maybe like to see a more refined barrel bolt set up, something more recessed most of all but a locking rig might be nice too.  More options on barrels; stainless, 1:8 or 1:7 kind of stuff.

Ghost hit on something too, not necessarily modifying the rifle but looking at the company and its operations.

-Getting/making time to go back over the site and get it squared away with correct parts, information and ordering info, etc ,etc.
-Add pictures to the parts ordering section, a nice exploded schematic view would be great too.
-I've seen some other sites with a "weapons builder" kind of deal that you move around little clip art style pieces to "build" your rifle.

And don't flame me on this one, but I've seen a few posters on here (which makes me wonder about folks who aren't members here and maybe have experienced similar) talking about lost or misplaced orders and stuff like that.  I've personally never had one single problem ordering or with what I would consider a longer than normal wait on an order.  I accept it as the price of admission of doing business with a smaller company.  But maybe it might be beneficial to get a neutral third party, one of those 6-Sigma or LEAN consultants might work, to come in and evaluate procedures to see if there possibly isn't a break in the comm chain between company and customer.

Well I just said  "I ordered the rail covers that Robarms offered for the XCR".

So why don't you google or search within the the XCR forum, like I just did, and ask the people who say they use them on the XCR.

http://xcrforum.com/index.php/topic,4936.msg72236.html#msg72236

Further down about KAC not working on other weapons.  They make their own rail system and I'm sure their rail covers fit those  ;-)

http://xcrforum.com/index.php/topic,3303.msg49354.html#msg49354

There's probably more, but do your own research and go ask the people who claim they have them fitted to the XCR.  But with KAC rail covers not fitting on other, non-KAC rails, I wouldn't use their stuff anyway.  The ones Robarms supplied me are fine.  Trade or sell your KAC stuff if you must.

You'll have to do the mod yourself but what you'll need to do is make a notch in the side of the rail slot for the latch on the KAC rails to lock into.  Look at your RAS on the M4 and you'll see the notches I'm talking about, on the ends of the rails.  I'd recommend a few passes with a small file to both sides followed by a touch up of Birchwood's alumablack or just a small paint pen would work too but would wear off over time requiring touch up later on.

Downside, you're cutting through the anodizing and exposing bare aluminum.  It's not a very critical part though and even mounting and removing the KAC covers and their steel clips over time wouldn't cause much wear.  There's nothing wrong with wanting to use KAC stuff, go with what you want bud.   Smiley

Haha its really not that critical to me....besides I'm really not a fan of modifying unless I absolutely have to...and covers to me are a non-issue. Like I said in my last post, I've just grown accustomed to the KAC stuff. And I just like the idea of having the option there if I wanted it, and to me the 1913 rail would be something I would "if you could change anything"...Chances are, I'll stick with my XM railcovers which I actually enjoy just as much or more  Grin

It was longer. That was the old style. The new paddle style safety is the one with shorter arms. The feedback on it has been very positive... it's been shipping for almost a year now.

My XCR has the newer ambi-safety on it, is that the one you are talking about?  I have taken the right switch off completely, would it be possible to order one of the older, longer, left side only selectors?

Oh, and I DO NOT want the rifle to open further.  I prefer the XCR upper the way it is without swinging all the way down.

No worries.  I like the KAC covers too because for the longest time they were the only covers that locked onto the rail.  (Insert space for folks to tell me about their 13th Warrior, SF trained, Navy SEAL carbine course in which a set of $2 covers they have worked just fine.) They're pretty low profile too.

Obviously the new sights and stock are first on my list, but there is one thing a little anoying. The charging handle itself. It seem like an afterthough. Like they got the whole rifle done and then thought"  Duh , we forgot the handle. Hey, go grab one of those little rubber things out of the widget bucket!"

I had an L1A1 once with a great charging hadle. It was folded down until you needed it and flopped back down with forward momentum. No poke in the belly when slung and looked really finished, like it belonged there.

I know this is a photo from and airsoft site but you can see what I'm talking about in the bottom picture. http://airsoftxsports.com/images/ka-ag-14.jpg

Three little items that I find somewhat annoying and suspect that a soldier in the field might also:

1) The darned little 5 cent spring clip that retains the front hinge pin, it is much too easily misplaced or lost.

2) The blockage that results in the inability to rotate the upper beyond a few degrees from the lower while the hinge pin is still in place.  A much greater angle would be very welcome as it would allow far better visual and physical access to the chamber area.

3) Some manner of either manual or automatic(preferred) physical restraint(other than the current operator's fingers) to prohibit the orbital grade launching of the recoil spring/bolt/op rod assembly when opening the breech to clear a jam or otherwise to service the weapon.

Oh that.

January 18, 2008, 09:59:17

"We may also work on our own front and rear sights"

NOTE:  "may"

We haven't heard anything more about that AFAIK.

Most sights nowadays, mount on rails and people like the choice of selecting from any sight maker.

They seem to have gone back to basics...ie. the rifle itself by releasing the mini, micro, pistol and the California versions.  Fixing/replacing the poor trigger.  The 308/7.62x51 M which still isn't out.  The 6.5 kit still delayed.  The new stock, the current one, a lot of people have complained about due to the lack of adjustment.

As most people use some sort of optics with iron sight secondaries, I'm not sure they will ever make their own iron sights.  It would seem a lot of effort for little return and is just a distraction from the main rifle.  They have to provide a stock on rifles by law.  They don't have to provide sights.

As for the rest...

"New Stock - This is our top R&D priority right now.  We'll get several of you some pics or solid models to review shortly."

2-years later, nothing.  So much for that.

"XCR-M .308 - This is our top priority this year." - Didn't happen in 2008 either.  Still waiting.

The 6.5 wasn't mentioned but was also a 2008 on their website - Still waiting.

"The .22 LR is but it will be later this year."   - Didn't happen in 2008 either.  Still waiting.

Maybe they are becoming defocussed with too many fingers in the pie.

As a current user with 5.56 & 7.62x39, at least we got the new trigger, new hold-open, abidextrous safety, if we want them.  I would like to see the new stock so we can bring our current rifles up to a higher spec/comfort level for distance shooting.  Personally, I'm still wanting the 6.5 barrel change kit.  the .22 barrel kit would be nice to save ammo costs whilst plinking and other training.

But everyone has their own personal wishes.  I bought the MI iron sights so unless something comes along a lot better for accuracy, I'm set.

Doesn't stop me from hoping. I like the idea of being able to mount the front sight to the gas block and make all adjustments there so when I swap back and forth between 5.56 and 6.8 I don't have to re-zero every time. I think it would make this rifle truly modular rather than change parts, trip to the range, then ready. I know I can just buy seperate optics for each cal but I'd much rather pay an extra $150 bucks for two fronts and a fixed rear and be ready to go no matter what. Sorry to Beating a dead horse. , I started a thread on this very issue a few weeks ago. What can I say, I like a nice set of irons.

you can complain about the availability of new things as much as you want, but it's not going to make them arrive on your doorstep tomorrow. We are going to do things right, not quickly.

If I were to purchase a VLTOR stock and put it on the xcr how much extra weight would it add compared to the standard skeleton stock?

Let's see...

ambi-mag release, cuz lefties need love too.  If fact... ambi standard equipment

gas block sight. Better sight radius and it should be more accurate between barrel changes and over time.  If that won't fly, put a rail on top of the gas block.

tool-less adjustable brass deflector.

round counter (why not?)

adjustable stock.

hex tool kit stored in the stock or grip
