An action shot of me shooting my XCR this last weekend.  Other than the sunburn, was a great day.  Bonus points if you can guess the gas setting.  Grin

Don't see the case in the air so I haven't a clue.

Is it supposed to be kicking smoke out of the piston plug like that ?

Did you heavily oil it.

I have never seen smoke out of my or my wifes XCR's.

This was about 500 rounds into the day so any residue from the cleaning would have burned off by then.  On closer inspection, there is some fouling around the plug and gas block which might be affecting the seal - I do disassemble the plug and block after each use and clean it pretty thoroughly though.

To be completely honest, when I viewed this picture, I mentally transposed the plug on the XCR with the plug on my M96 that has all the little holes in it.  The rifle performs flawlessly so hopefully the venting is normal.  Terra?

I wonder how much pressure is being lost there.

The gas plug is not an airtight seal.  Some gas will get around it.  It appears from the picture that the rifle may be backlit from the sun out of the picture off to the right or behind the hill, so I think you are getting a "magnified" sense of how visible that smoke cloud is.

As far as pressure loss, I've seen chrono numbers on a FAL with the gas on and off (the FAL of course, purposely vents gas more than the XCR) and the difference was somewhere around 15 FPS average between the two... i.e. the average loss was less than the total velocity spread on any one setting.

Sure, it is an ITC railrest, and it works perfectly and cleanly on the XCR.  Here is a post I made on it a while back: http://xcrforum.com/index.php/topic,4736.0.html

your setting is a 2.

I was seeing the gas around the block while my brother was shooting mine on Sunday.  Just a lil puff.

Considering the valve jiggles just a bit, like J-Lo's butt, I figured there would be some gas release around it.

Mine dont have 11...

Just turn it to 3 four times, then back to 2.  Or you could just turn it to the binary 11.
