I'm a cheap bastard.

Now that that's out of the way.....let me explain. I have a hard time spending $60-100 on a Larue FUG or Bobro or Tango Down VFG....they are basically just handles after all.....though they do have quick release features.
I thought I had a low cost solution in the form of a Ergo VFG made of polymer....but after using two of them on various rifles for a while (not hard use at all), one of them started to crack where the bolt went through the handle to lock it down. They were only $13 and they were easily cut down to "stubby" profile (since that fits my thumb break grip the best).....but if you ever had to really use it in a SHTF scenario....I doubt it would last long.
Here's a pic:

So I started looking for an aluminum grip. I've had a few of the Spike's Tactical stubby grips for a while....and they are nice, but heavy and I didn't care for the attachment method since you have to take everything off the rail to slide it on or off. When I bought mine (without the screw on cap with different available lengths; like the FUG)....they were $30. Now they are $35 with the FUG style caps and compartment. Still a good value compared to the competition IMO despite the attachment method.
Here's a link to the VFG page(the pic is a pop-up so I can't direct link it):
http://www.spikestactical.com/z/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=78_94&products_id=283Then I accidentally came across the KZ stubby VFG on BotachTactical.com (I know. A lot of people have had problems with Botach....but I've ordered at least 8 times now with no issues. From what I can tell, you just have to make sure they have what you want in stock by checking via email, live chat or calling to avoid problems).
Here it is:

It's $25, has a storage compartment, weighs 4 oz., is 3.7" long overall and comes apart in two interlocking halves so you can remove it without taking everything off of the rail. It also has two pins that lock the two halves together in addition to the allen head screw. The downside is it's not that great looking and the stubby VFG (as opposed to their fullsize) doesn't have the recessed screw head (I may fix that in a few days)....but overall, for the money, it seems like a great deal. I mounted it on my XCR mini upper and I'm very impressed with the quality for the price. Supposedly it's made in the USA.
Just wanted to pass this along if you're a cheap bastard like me.
