i am new and slow to this platform. I would like to get your guys' opinions on this to help me with my next purchase.
I was not in the market to purchase a new rifle....in fact after the last one i said to the wife "THATS IT - last one"....yea. Cheesy but after talking to Alex last week, he almost had me sold.

anyhow, these are my questions:
1)can i abuse this rifle like my Veprs (hard field use, extensive training, harsh weather conditions)
2)my caliber of choice would be  7.62x39. Is there an issue with the rifle running mil-spec steel case ammo?
3) mags...i read many posts here and got mixed feelings.
4)can i put 1-1.5k rounds per weekend course with no issues of cleaning?

thanks everyone!

1) not quite as much abuse, and the rifle requires more operator knowledge than the AK does.
2) there is no issue with running any type of ammo as long as you give it enough gas
3) the mags are a weak point.  Personally I am very suspicious of a mag fed rifle that shoots an AK caliber and does not use AK mags.  IMO ithe XCR is not a good choice for a duty weapon in this caliber.
4) yes. easily.  You should keep it lubed tho.  Grease is good.

The Rusky is no dummie! Those are well thought out operator needs.

I run 7.62. Have a gen 1 mag. The only time I had a failure to feed during breakin was with Wolf steel case. The schuttlebutt goes
just replace gen 1 and 2 mag springs with real AK springs then you will be fine. Or the claim with the latest Cprod mag shipped is that
the problem is cured.
A skeptic would get the 5.56 kit "just in case".

I agree Jack-O and welcome Russian.

Just a suggestion, is there one specific thread for potential/new to XCR owners that lists all the features, configurations, break in procedures etc... that may answer a lot of these questions?

Don't get me wrong Russian, if you have a question fire away. I just think it'd be nice to have that thread for everyone to refer to and that may answer a lot of questions with STANDARD answers.

That'd be a good sticky.

I replaced the springs in my mags and they're still 100% since then.

A sticky is probably a good idea.

I gotta disagree  , My first 200 rds were 556 , then I bought the 7.62 kit and changed the hammer and spring and have burned over 2000 rds without a problem . Not one malfunction , none . The springs in the 7.62 mags do need to be changed . 7.62 ammo is cheap and its got way more knock down power over 556 . Ask any GI thats got hit with one. I've spent years over there and 7.62 hurts  Beating a dead horse.
I've been using 7.62x39 cal weapons since 77 and they work very well

Do you think the Golden Tiger was worth the extra money?

Golden Tiger isn't even that expensive. I've seen it online way cheap. And it's good stuff. Ran very well through my rifle.

I've ran it through my AK and to be honest,I can't that much difference between it and Wolf,Brown Bear, etc. It may be a little more accurate, but none of this stuff is match grade so......Anyway when the weather gets a little better I will go out and actually shoot a few groups with each and see if there is much difference. The Golden Tiger may be a bit hotter as well.

broke in a brand new 7.62 with Golden Tiger. Noticeably hotter than Wolf.

I tried starting out shooting XCR #1 in 7.62x39 the other day on gas setting 2 with the Wolf to see what happened.  Sure enough, Bang..click, rack, Bang...click, rack, etc...

Turned it back up to setting 3 and it ran like a champ.  Only had one primer that didn't go off out of that lot.  I believe my buddy wants to get a mini in 7.62x39.

Just send that with my other commissions.   Roll Eyes

same here, and agreed.  GT is hotter than my wolf ammo.  I can run my gas valve on 2 with GT and no probs.  Not so with the Wolf-needs 3 or 4.

For those Cmag concerns:
I have 6 30rd Cmags, 1 from RA with the older 20+ coils spring and 5(direct buy) with the 13 coil springs.  I notice a difference with the springs outside of the mags but have had no hitches with any of them in the rifle.

you must be using black box.

I never use black box.The 2 types of ammo (bb/MC) are made in diff factories as well. Military classic all the way. When we were doing chronograph testing of muzzle velocity, Wolf MC HP 124gr has averaging 50-80 fps higher than GT. On top of that WOLF MC HP was grouping way better that GT did. I also got a few duds with GT.
rifle used was VEPR II 20.5'' barrel
but this doesnt mean that it is going to preform the same in OTHER rifles. thats why I always tell people, what works good in my rifle may not work in your rifle. even if its the same barrel length.
the ONLY advantage with GT is that it is a bit cleaner. but AKs dont care. Wink ...but in a XCR maybe a small difference? dont know
