Hello,

I'm very new to the XCR and need advice on iron sights.

I thought I had a sight set chosen for the XCR, I was going to go with the Rainier C4 diopter sights (modified Centurion / HK clone).  After reading your posts, you guys saved me from getting a sight set that would be too high.

After reading as much as I could find on this forum, it appears that there are only two good choices of sights for the XCR; the low height (stubby) Troy or the HK 416 sights.  If I'm still missing something and there are other low sights to choose from please let me know.

The HK 416 sights look stronger, but they cost a whopping $300 (the tool to adjust them is no bargain either).  The Troy sights are less expensive, but I read in another forum of problems getting them to sight in properly with modifications to the front sight being discussed (for $200 you would think they don't need to be modified).

Is this an alternative?:  There is also the iTac DS-1, but I can't find out much about it.  One posting in another forum said it was made in China, but other forum postings said it is a Sig sight made in Israel.  This sight has a riser, that makes it AR15 compatable, so that means if we eject to riser it might work with the XCR.  But then, what front sight would be compatable?

Here is a link to the iTac:  http://itacdefense.com/ShowProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=39&CategoryID=27  (the prices range from about $150 to $230)

If you could educate me I'd appreciate it.  (I'm looking for low iron sights, no optics will be used)

If you need any help with the M1 Garand, M14, or M1 Carbine I'm you're go-to guy, but I'm still baffled by the XCR sight issue (never had any interest in the AR15 platform).

THANKS!

Typically, the Troy stubbies do not have to be modified. I believe that case you read on that thread was a fluke. I would go with them.

I like my Troy/Titan stubbies.  Eventhough I needed to mod mine a little to get a proper co-wit and sight alignment.  The modding was minimal, took 30 minutes.

It's not that the standard AR sights don't work.  But instead of a cheek weld, it's more like a jawbone weld.

The beauty of the stubbies is that they fold and are completely out of your sight pic when using some sort of optics.  The HK rotary diop is always going to be in the pic.  It all depends on what you want and/or will tolerate.  There are bennies to both.  The HK's have elevation/range adjustment, the stubbies don't.

No, I had the problem too.  At 25M the Troys didn't have enough adjustment.  I shortened the spring and plunger to make them work.   So, that's at least two people....and I think there was a 3rd that was saying the same thing.

OP, you don't need the HK tool to adjust the sights....you can use a set of cheap craftsman needle nose pliers (they are generally considered "electrical" needle nose with no serrations and the tines are thin).  That's how I adjusted my HK diopters. Worked fine.

That said, I didn't care for the diopters at all.....fine if you don't run a red dot....cluttered badly if you do.

JME,

Ah, well there's at least a small chance then. I know two people that did not have to modify theirs.
