Ok so I finally find a scope that I like that I can affordhttp://www.leatherwoodoptics.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=51&Itemid=56 but I need a mount for it. Some mounts cost a little some cost a lot. Whats the difference?Huh?

I like LaRue.  They're solid mounts but the downsides are cost (around $300) and some folks don't like they can mark the underside of the rail where the lever rotates.  On something like a .223 the ARMS rings (around $100+) would work well enough because the recoil is not as severe to really do a number on the mount and attachment points.  That's if you want a throwlever, quick release style mount.

For a more traditional, bolt-on mount I'd look at the Burris ring mounts.  Instead of a throwlever they use a lock nut on the cross bolt.

You don't have to spend a mint on rings/mounts but you don't want to buy crap either.  Your fancy rifle and fancy scope being mated together by a $10 MIM ring probably won't give you good results in the end.

For fiscal year 1996 NASA was authorized approx. $14.2B in spending. For comparison, the Health and Human Services budget for the same year was over $600B. In other words, Health and Human Services consumes the entire NASA budget in about 6 workdays. People who believe the money spent flying into space could be used to solve all our social ills should consider this fact: Does anybody really believe an extra 6 days of work by the social welfare agencies would solve our problems? -Mike Mullane

Thanks DSM, ARMS looks like some good gear. I don't even want that scope anymore though, they make them in China. I knew somthing about them looked cheap.

If you're looking for a 1-4 optic take a look at the Millett (a little on the heavy side but I bet you can club someone to death with it if need be and not lose zero) or the Burris models.  I've got a Burris unit that Midway did a special on a little while back, with the XTR reticle but no illume, that is very nice.

The Millet DMS is a nice scope, but it is quite large and heavy.  Also, judging by your post above, you should probably know that they are also made in China (I think the company is French though ?).

Here is a good thread on 1-4ish optics:
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=421244&page=1

If I were you, (and I'm looking at 1-4 optics right now too) I would take a hard look at the new vortex viper pst and a used american defense or larue mount.  The viper appears to have excellent features for its price point.  That would be a great setup at around $625-700 depending on how good a deal on a mount you could find.

If you want to stay tight under 6 bills,  I would look at something like the grsc crs, the new nikon m223, or maybe that leatherwood you mentioned (I hadn't seen it before) along with the ad or larue mount.  These would get you out the door between $480-550.

I've been a bit underwhelmed by the millett dms's I've shot.

I'd also go with the ADM rings as they are almost half the cost of the Larue, and almost just a sweet.

From what I've read it seems like Ed Verdugo, the creator of grsc, had qc issues with whatever chinese factory was initially contracted to make his scopes.  It seems that he now has a new manufacturer in korea, and he has said he has samples he's happy with.  I can't speculate of production levels or when they'll be fully available though.
