From YHM:

Sir,

Unfortunately I have bad news. We were finally notified by ATF Monday morning that we can no longer sell individual pistons, 3-lug adapters, fixed barrel adapters and most other components separately. We can sell a sound suppressor with one attaching device and that is it. We are not very happy to say the least. This is going to affect our business tremendously. Apparently, we were the first, and now ATF is going to go after all other sound suppressor manufacturers as well. We are going to fight this, and the owner of this company has already contacted some attorneys about taking legal action. As you saw we were forced to take all the products off our web page or face legal action by ATF. We are waiting to hear the final word on the QD mounts, and I am not expecting good news about them either. All I can tell you now is to be patient while we appeal ATF's ruling and hopefully get it overturned. Sorry for the inconvenience, however our hands are tied at the moment, and no one is more upset than us over this matter."
I am just starting to look into it but YHM has all their QD mounts marked as 'Out of stock' so it is not looking too good at the first glance.

Eric,

This does NOT make any sense at all. WTH did they do wrong?

Wow, that is not good.  I better order all the QD flash hiders that I need now before the same thing happens with AAC.

Where did you get this post from?

They did nothing wrong, BATF just went after them first.  I think that letter above is true too.. if you go to YHM website you will see that all their QD's are "out of stock" http://yankeehillmachine.com/store/Sound_Accessories.html

If you need a QD to buy it now.

Just a thought... what if we currently have QD's and don't have tax stamps for them?  Does that mean we are felons now?

It sounds like it is the "interpretation of the month" on NFA items.  I bet this could be traced to someone new moving into the technology branch.

Just like RA had to send an example into those guys for the XCR pistol, is there an approval process possibly for a suppressor?  I have no idea honestly.

ETA: what about the cans that attach to a standard A2 flash hider?  Are they now NFA too?!

For fiscal year 1996 NASA was authorized approx. $14.2B in spending. For comparison, the Health and Human Services budget for the same year was over $600B. In other words, Health and Human Services consumes the entire NASA budget in about 6 workdays. People who believe the money spent flying into space could be used to solve all our social ills should consider this fact: Does anybody really believe an extra 6 days of work by the social welfare agencies would solve our problems? -Mike Mullane

Um...I'm 99% sure you are wrong. They weren't "grandfathered" so much as given a grave period to register. They still had to pay the $200 tax. If this applied here, you would need to pay $200 per QD...

This is going nowhere..i'm not too worried.

Actually, I am pretty sure there was a 5 year grace period where there was a free mandatory registration period.  I am still looking up the info and will get the source when I find it.

So far it's just YHM but a couple others have pulled their QD's to wait and see.  AAC and Gemtech aren't saying much either so now it's just a waiting game.

It seems an arbitrary decision so far but it might not be a bad idea to get a letter writing deal started.  The problem is the NFA world is a pretty small one in comparison.

Perhaps an end run around registration of all EBRs?  Anything with an A2 FH would have to be registered since some cans fit onto A2s.  It's win-win for them.....get rid of FH, or get a registration base on any weapon with one installed.

We need more information on this.....as in the actual letter from ATF.

This could conceivably be the "line in the sand" if the real agenda is pushing registration of anything with a FH capable of mounting a suppressor.

If ATF can do this, they could easily say ANYTHING with a threaded bbl could have a suppressor installed and therefore my HK USPCT with the threaded factory bbl would now be interpreted to be an NFA item.

I don't think they are saying this or going this far, but it's conceivable which is why we should all be concerned.

if legitimate, we need to just call bullshit on this.  its just another step towards a registry, and taxing the firearms right out of people's hands.

Along these lines, if I want to (eventually) put a suppressor on my XCRs (one suppressor, many XCR's), can anyone tell me which AAC Blackout version I want to stock up on now?  I'm a bit confused between the 3 suppressor mounting flash hiders on their web site (18T, 51T and 51T MITER).  I think I'd want to grab a couple 51T MITER blackouts in 1/2x28 tpi (the can I like is the SPR/M4).  Is that right?  Is there anything else I ought to be stocking up on?  Help, anyone?

It depends on which AAC suppressor you want to purchase:

18T          = M4-1000
51T          = M4-2000
51T MITER = SPR/M4

Be careful on the 51T MITER SPR/M4, you need 2.5" of free barrel surface since it slips over the barrel that distance.

I spoke to somebody very close to AAC and he wasn't worried about FHs.  He said that pistol boosters may become a problem but isn't worried about FHs.

Sounds like you spoke to the same person I did recently and he told me the same thing.

What a load of crap man.  This will likely mean no more flash hiders exported to Canada as well.  The NRA has to put a stop to these ridiculous regulations.
